Generali China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (GCL), founded in 2002 as a joint venture between Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. (Generali) and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), was the first Sino-foreign joint venture insurer approved by Chinese Government after China joined the World Trade Organization. At present, the registered capital of GCL is RMB 2.7 billion yuan. Its total assets are nearly RMB 40 billion yuan, making GCL the largest joint venture life insurer in China.

Generali has 180 years of experience in the insurance industry, having been founded in Italy in 1831. As one of the largest insurance groups and top asset managers in the world, Generali has insurance and financial operations in 68 countries and regions worldwide. CNPC is China's largest oil and gas producer and supplier, as well as one of the world's major oilfield service providers and a globally reputed contractor in engineering construction. Its sales revenues, total assets and profits are always one of the highest among the large enterprises in China. Generali and CNPC have long been ranking in the top 50 among the Fortune Global 500 companies in terms of revenues.
